basic crap

In which I take a page from Rex's book and make a basic about-me, for anyone in bakerstreet or whatever who isn't familiar with the Bioshocks

Note: Bioshock 1 has a good end, a bad end, and a medium-rare end (which is actually just the bad end but in a nicer tone of voice). This Jack is bad-end Jack. Also a lot of his personality is open to interpretation, so like, bear in mind this is only my take on him.

BEWARE, THESE WOODS ARE FULL OF BIOSHOCK SPOILERS

So. Imagine you're a soulless opportunist in an underwater city FULL of soulless opportunists, only you're a better businessman than most of them and also you have a sillier accent. You want to overthrow the leader of the city and take it for yourself. You're already inciting civil war to that end, but in case that doesn't work, you decide to make an impossibly convoluted Plan B.

That Plan B is Jack.

Jack was speed-grown in a lab to be an assassin. But if you're thinking of the crafty, stealthy, Lord Vetinari-type assassin, stop right there, because Jack is pretty much a brick shithouse who brute-forces his way through crowds of assailants and pipe dream puzzles alike. Our soulless opportunist from above, Fontaine, didn't have to conceal the fact that Jack was in the city. He just had to hide the reason. Even from Jack himself.

To that end, Jack is implanted with a lot of false memories (a farm, a family) which are covering up his real ones (a lab, a science, a note here: huge success). Some life experience stuff got programmed into him too, but y'know, there are gaps. All he really needed to be able to do was survive, and fight, and kill.

Oh, and Jack's assassination target? His own biological father.

Before he finds out about his real past, Jack:

• is kinda trigger-happy
• eats everything in sight
• has a seriously lacking concept of stuff like death and other people (shut up he's four)
• is trusting to a fault
• doesn't look a gift horse in the mouth
• BUT is pretty curious otherwise, and a bit of an explorer
• likes robots
• likes trolling enemies by being more op than them
• can be mind controlled through use of the phrase "would you kindly"
• also responds to other triggers that do fun stuff like stop his heart etc
• eats small children for fun and profit

And after all is revealed, he:

• is easily just as trigger-happy
• is still a hungry hungry hippo
• is more suspicious and mistrustful than he used to be
• has about a hundred parents and huge issues with all of them
• no longer has to worry about those pesky mind control trigger phrases
• the rest of the stuff above is still basically accurate

Obviously it's not an instantaneous switch from one to the other, but you get the idea.

Here's some physical deets:

• 6 foot 2 and built like an ox
• yes, even though some of the icons have him skinny, bioshock fanart is funny that way
• cropped dark hair, dark eyes, generally puzzled expression
• huge tolerance for pain and damage thanks to magic ~genetics~
• superpowers (the usual: fire, lightning, ice, bees...)
• also the clumsiest telekinesis you've ever seen in your life

i haven't even gone into Atlas or splicing dear god
this is not quite as short as i had hoped
